Zumba has a way of seeping in to your life. I am always listening to new music,
practicing my moves, trying to make my classes the best they can be. At
gatherings with family and friends I bring out my Zumba music and dance,
dance, dance.. My rollerblading has morphed into rollerzumba…. The UPS man
delivered a package one day as I was practicing outside my house and I couldn't
resist asking him to join me. On a recent trip to France I invited our host family
to join me in an impromptu Zumba mini class. One of my T-shirts asks "Got
Zumba?" Yes, I do! I am definitely not the best dancer, but I do have the
passion. I think my greatest strength is the ability to make my students feel
comfortable taking my class. I put myself in their shoes. I want them to feel the
Zumba joy, to be able to let loose and enjoy their hour of fitness.
I am a former university Spanish and Foreign Language Methodology
instructor. Before Zumba I had never been involved in any formal fitness
classes. In fact, fitness always took a back burner in my life. This is no
longer true! Zumba has become a focal point in my life. After practicing the
Zumba videos in my living room for 2 years I decided to become an
instructor and went to my first workshop in Miami in November of 2005.
For the FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE I didn't care what anyone thought of my
clothes, my moves, my age. I was swept up in Zumba passion. And passion
it is! A part of my personality comes out that has been dormant all these
years. I whoop and "whoo!" and shout "wepa", "arriba"!

One of the highlights of my Zumba experience happened in September 2009 at the 2nd
Annual International Zumba Convention. I was invited to be part of the Zumba Boomers
group and dance on stage with Beto at the Zumbathon. An unforgettable experience in this
unforgettable Zumba journey!
In 2010 and 2011 Zumba continued to provide me with more opportunities. For Z-Life
magazine's premier issue I was honored to write a short piece called
La Pasion del Flamenco http://zlife.zumba.com/archives/213
followed in later months by
Tantalizing, Tempestuous Tango

At my third Zumba Convention I connected with instructors from all over
the world and took workshops in Flamenco, Brazilian Carnival dances,
Salsa and Merengue.
While on a transatlantic cruise from Venice, Italy to Ft. Lauderdale, FL in
October 2010 I led several Zumba classes aboard the Ruby Princess Cruise ship. What
fun that was!
Celebrating Zumba's TEN year anniversary at the 2011 Convention
expanded my horizons even more with workshops ranging from Broadway
to Bollywood. My Shores Zumba dancers and I participated in an
International Festival Street Party and did a Zumba flash mob at a local
food tasting event. I wonder what 2012 will bring?
